I went to bed not sure if I was gonna do the LJ strike, but when I woke up, I had developed Martian Death Flu or something overnight. So that decided me. And now, here I am. Feeling slightly better, but not a lot. (Oh my god, the mood image for "sick" is a vomiting blob. What.) March 19th, 2008(no subject) @ 07:31 pm

Jeez, most of the smaller communities I was in on LJ aren't here at all. On the one hand, I'd like to have a Kare Kano community, just on principle. On the other, the ones for tiny fandoms really aren't updated often even on LJ, so if I started one, it'd probably just be me. I guess I'll wait until the strike is over and then ask in the LJ communities if anyone's interested. Ugh. I'm really not the right person to be starting communities and things like that. Maybe I should start getting some content ready just in case I do have to be the one to start them up. March 16th, 2008(no subject) @ 12:29 am
Okay, so apparently SUP is tied to the Kremlin, which has been cracking down on journalistic freedom in Russia. So I've downgraded to a Basic account so as to deprive them of whatever tiny, tiny amount they were earning from my ads. And, um, I guess I should start looking at InsaneJournal. I wasn't really affected by the crackdown on chan and incest writers, but this is making me kind of uncomfortable. March 14th, 2008(no subject) @ 05:03 pm
My brother is watching Epic Movie in the next room. KILL. ME. I mustn't run away. I mustn't run away. I mustn't run away. Time to distract myself with Kyou Kara Maou! OH YUURI. AND WOLFRAM. AND YOUR BEARBEES AND DRAGONS and wtf is going on? ( OMG OVA 3 spoilers ) Who the hell is this mysterious new servant girl? Where did she come from? Why is she in the opening? Oh, good, he got bored and went upstairs. Time for some Princess Tutu. And tonight I can have nightmares about Drosselmeyer because HOLY GOD IS HE SCARY. March 11th, 2008(no subject) @ 07:52 pm
Damn, New York! Our governor just turned out to be gay!* Upstaging bastards. My dad says this'll be a bigger issue than it would be if he were a Republican I guess Clinton did get kind of a disproportionate reaction. And Larry Craig didn't resign at all, but Spitzer is basically retiring maybe 48 hours after the whole thing hit. But we'll see. *Well, there was the whole thing with cheating on his wife and giving the other guy a nepo-tastic salary and whatnot, but no one really talked about that. But if there's one thing I've learned over the past few weeks, it's that the truth will always come out. Not from personal experience, but it's been drilled into my head by the Phoenix Wright games, which I alternately love and hate, and reading Crime and Punishment. And, speaking of Crime and Punishment, the other lesson I've learned is that nineteenth century Russia was an awful place to live. In fact, the past in general seems to be complete hell. But Russia at that time in particular was even worse, judging from Crime and Punishment and a couple of short stories I read, in which, by the way, fuck-everyone dies, so they don't make great before-bedtime reading. Oh, and I just finished a 1000 word essay for AP Lit about Eastern European literary styles in the nineteenth century, so I'm pretty jazzed. Wow, I'm in a chatty mood all of a sudden. Okay, well, this is the place for that, I guess. So: Phoenix Wright: I've played through the first and second games, based entirely on wanting to understand the 50 billion Fandom Secrets about it. Sadly, I once again have zero interest in the most popular pairing. Edgeworth especially was a serious hindrance to actually completing the game. I kept wanting to stab him. Jesus, what a douche. And I don't much care for Phoenix, either. I'M NOT TELLING HIM TO SAY THIS STUPID SHIT, YOUR HONOR! Princess Tutu: I've started watching it. Yeah, that's pretty much it, except that this secret posted in Other stuff: I saw Akira Kurosawa's Hidden Fortress on Sunday. Supposedly Star Wars was based on it. Honestly, I wasn't too fond of it, but that might have been because I found out a minute before it started that it was over two hours long. And half of that is people climbing up hills. But on the bright side, Toshiro Mifune is totally dreamy. Although Tsuda's little notes in the back of the Kare Kano graphic novels have completely affected me. I mean, the second he appeared onscreen I thought of her. "I call him Miffy!" At the time I was like, "Oh, Tsuda," but, uh, now he's Miffy to me. So, yeah. New reason to watch Kurosawa for me. (Not sure if this is long enough to need a cut, but it looks okay on my monitor.) February 5th, 2008(no subject) @ 05:16 pm
I think Gankutsuou has sort of spoiled me in terms of production quality. I started the second season of Kyou Kara Maou, and it's full of bizarre shots, like focusing in on people's mouths while they talk for no real reason, or, even worse, focusing on their face above the mouth, so there's no movement on-screen at all. And Conrad is back with the crew. I can't say I'm glad, but somehow he managed to take up even more of the story when he wasn't with them. Hopefully someone else can get some attention now. Also, Stoffel is made of hilarious fail. Within about 15 minutes, the following things happened to him:

Oh, Stats did not go well. I hate it when you study everything you're not sure about and then none of that is on the test, and the things you were pretty sure about turn out to be the things you don't know. Thank God for the free response, but I'm still looking at a B- if I'm lucky. I think I aced my Latin exam, though. So I've been making Kare Kano icons to cheer myself up, but that just reminded me how bad Yukino would kick my ass on midterms. And everything else, for that matter. So I'm watching Gankutsuou, which is basically The Count of Monte Cristo with space vampires and cyborgs and whatnot. Franz is being ridiculously obvious about his FORBIDDEN SECRET LOVE, but no one seems to have noticed. Maximilien especially should have picked up on something, but I guess he was just too busy with his own little entanglement. And I think the Count just ate a baby. Watched Spartacus yesterday. So... long. But, you know, none of the scenes seemed like they should have been cut out. They were all pretty important. I guess that's old-fashioned moviemaking for you. In related news, Kirk Douglas has a frightening chin, which grows even more horrifying through a cold-induced haze. On the bright side, World of Warcraft has failed to grab me. Ragnarok Online is really more my thing, for some reason, but no way am I forcing the computer to have both of them on it at once. I've been making a few January 6th, 2008(no subject) @ 12:39 am
All right, it's a new year, and my resolution is to POST MOAR. I really fell back into my lurking habit for, like, a month there. Point 1: Posting with a ridiculously huge new monitor. Apparently my parents felt our lives weren't complete without... I don't even know, about 1680x1240 pixels. Point 2: My brother is downloading World of Warcraft for a trial period. He started it before I woke up, and at one in the morning on the following day, it's 24% done. Ugh. I think he's gonna want me to play with him, and I don't want to turn him down, but it does look a little too fun. I mean, I've heard stories, and our parents won't be too happy if we start spending even more time on the computer. A DILEMMA. Point 3: We both got iPods for Christmas, so now I can actually do those musical fandom memes! At least until I go deaf like all those newspaper articles say. Point 4: The family watched The Prestige on Christmas Eve, and can I just say: I would like to call a moratorium on that particular plot twist for approximately ALL TIME. WTF. (But Tesla/that American guy OTP) And, point 5: The Golden Compass was... really not too great. Again, the ending=WTF. December 13th, 2007(no subject) @ 08:56 pm
I've been reading my old Toshihiro Ono Pokemon manga, and have drawn one conclusion: manga Ash is extremely adorable. Also, that I'm actually kind of glad for the "censoring" of Jessie's, um, auxiliary Team Rocket members. Even with that, there are some scenes that were obviously T&A first, and actual necessary, plot-advancing panels second. Including some with Misty that are very DO NOT WANT. (What is this Adult Content stuff? How are you supposed to judge that? Is mention of boobs considered Adult? What do I do!?) Also also: Crazy Maniwa icon! ETA: COUNTDOWN TO REDCLOAK IN FIVE... FOUR... THREE... November 28th, 2007(no subject) @ 06:57 pm
Wow, real life ate me for a couple of days there. But now that I'm back, hi to my new friends! On a somewhat related note, Moby Dick is actually pretty fun to read. I was expecting hell on earth after Billy Budd. November 21st, 2007November 19th, 2007(no subject) @ 03:42 pm
Last night's Simpson episode was the best thing ever created by mankind. There can be no argument over this point. November 18th, 2007I'm Tigerseye, the special guy! @ 01:35 pm
So, thanks to some lovely person on Also, the dubbers got some flack for making Pegasus sound about forty for a role that involves constantly being alone with a nine-year-old in her room and telling her to keep their meetings a complete secret. But honestly, it's not much better with his Japanese voice. Even when he sounds young, what he's saying is incredibly creepy, whether or not you know his actual form is a boy about 14. My brother is watching Eragon in the next room while I'm trying to do a bonus book critique to boost my grade in AP European History. If I don't get into college, I would like to go on record as blaming Christopher Paolini and everyone involved in the making of that movie. Also Livejournal for giving me a place to complain instead of doing my work. October 20th, 2007 | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
